Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Al-Masjidh (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Al Muslim mobile app, the Al-Masjidh website at https://almasjidh.com, the mosque office portal, platform admin tools, and related APIs (together, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

Al-Masjidh is the website and mosque platform. Al Muslim is the mobile app people download for prayer times, Qibla, Quran, duas, mosque finder, following a mosque, and related Islamic tools. For privacy questions, contact support@almasjidh.com.

2. Information we collect

What we collect depends on how you use the Services. Our backend and apps may process the categories below.

2.1 Account and profile (Al Muslim)

When you create or link an account we may store: Sri Lankan mobile number (local and E.164 forms) for OTP login; display name; profile photo URL; date of birth; gender; marital status; profession; district; onboarding completion; guest vs registered status; and a device installation id for guest sessions (one active guest account per installation). Mosque office and platform admin accounts may also use email and a password hash. We do not store SMS OTP codes after verification completes.

2.2 Devices, sessions, and notifications

To keep you signed in and deliver alerts, we may store refresh tokens (hashed), device platform, app version, device model, FCM push token, prayer-zone subscription for prayer alerts, last-seen time, user agent, and approximate IP at login or token refresh. Auth events may be written to an audit log (success/failure, IP, user agent). Notification preferences you set in the app may also sync with your account.

2.3 Location and sensors

With permission, Al Muslim uses location for prayer-zone detection, Qibla, nearby mosques, and related features. Precise GPS used to pick a prayer zone is processed on the device for that purpose; the app may store or sync the resulting zone (and related settings), not a continuous advertising track of your movements. Qibla uses the compass / motion sensors on the device. You can revoke location access in system settings; the app can fall back to a manual zone.

2.4 Mosque follow, community, and activity you create

If you follow a mosque (for example by scanning its QR), we store that follow so you can receive that mosque's news, alerts, and janaza in the app. Following a mosque is separate from the mosque's Jamaat roll. When you are signed in we may also sync prayer tracking / streaks and Islamic goals you choose to keep on the server. Local Quran, duas, tasbeeh, and similar tools may keep progress on the device.

2.5 Mosque office and website data (Al-Masjidh)

Mosques that use the Al-Masjidh office may submit or manage operational records such as mosque profile and facilities, announcements, janaza details (including family contact where provided), followers, Jamaat membership, sadaqah / zakat / sanda ledgers, trustee board and meeting minutes, staff accounts, posters / join QR, and uploaded media (for example mosque photos). That data is provided by the mosque to run its workspace and to reach people who follow it in Al Muslim.

2.6 Cookies and similar technologies

The website may use cookies or similar storage to keep mosque-office sessions signed in, remember preferences, and keep the site secure. Limiting cookies in your browser may affect login and some features.

3. How we use your information

• Operate and improve Al Muslim and the Al-Masjidh website
• Provide prayer times, Qibla, mosque finder, Quran tools, and reminders
• Authenticate users (OTP / phone, guest session, or mosque-office login)
• Sync profile, followed mosque, prayer tracking, and goals when signed in
• Send the notifications you enable (prayer, mosque, and related alerts)
• Support mosque registration, dashboards, and community tools
• Respond to support requests and protect the security of the Services
• Comply with applicable law

We do not sell your personal data.

4. How we share information

We share data with providers that help run the Services — for example cloud hosting, databases, object storage for media, maps (such as Google Maps for mosque locations), SMS delivery for OTP, and push notifications (such as Firebase Cloud Messaging). They process data under arrangements meant to protect it. We may disclose information when required by law, to protect users or our rights, or in connection with a reorganisation. Mosque administrators control much of the data in their own workspace.

5. On-device processing and local storage

Many preferences and some location-related values stay on your phone so Al Muslim works quickly offline. Clearing app data or uninstalling removes local storage on that device. Server-side account data remains until you delete the account or we remove it under this policy.

6. Retention and security

We keep personal information only as long as needed to provide the Services, support mosque operations you are part of, and meet legal requirements. We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect data. No system is perfectly secure; please protect your device and account.

7. Your choices and rights

• Location and notifications: control them in the app and in device settings
• Account: update your profile in Al Muslim; you may delete your account from profile settings. Deletion removes account-tied profile, follow links, synced prayer tracking, goals, and related settings where supported
• Access / correction: request access or correction by emailing us

8. Children

The Services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. Contact us if you believe we have, so we can delete it.

9. International processing

We primarily serve users in Sri Lanka. Information may be processed on servers or by providers in other countries. Where we do so, we take steps appropriate to the data and applicable requirements.

10. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the revised version on this page and update the “Last updated” date. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated policy.
